My name is Tyler English and I’m the founder of Connecticut Fitness Boot Camp, located in Canton at Tyler English Fitness and West Hartford at Tyler English’s Fitness Revolution. I know how frustrating it can be to join a gym and never see results for the money or time you put into it.
After 7 years of working as a fitness trainer at someone else’s gym, I got discouraged, too. I saw people come through the door wanting to lose weight and get their body in shape only to quickly become discouraged. Why? Because the gym had become a big social network of people who weren’t there to lose weight. They were there to make friends.
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with making friends. But you don’t have to join a fitness program to do it. That’s why I started Connecticut Fitness Boot Camp; to give my clients the benefit of having a coach guide them through an intense workout so they could finally get the weight loss results they’re looking for.

After a life of active living, playing sports, hiking and dancing being diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Nephritis has changed my life in many ways. I am no longer able to exercise, or be active in the same way I was used to without wearing myself down and feeling extremely fatigued. I gained a significant amount of weight a few years after my diagnosis and found myself unhappy and still feeling tired. In desperation I joined a commercial gym and a personal trainer. I found myself with some weight loss, but at the price of working myself to exhaustion and out thousands of dollars in just one year.
In December of 2009 a friend approached me about trying out this new boot camp that was run by a few guys from my home town. After checking out the website I was nervous and unsure if I could handle the rigorous intensity of the training. Rather than finding an excuse not to try the program, I emailed the owner, Tyler with my story and a few questions to see if I could make his boot camp work for me. I didn’t know Tyler well at the time, just his name in high school as he was a few years older than me, but his response encouraged me to attend orientation.
Once attending the orientation class I knew that something very special was going on at Farmington Valley Fitness Boot camp. I approached Tyler’s brother Rob whom was a classmate of mine and was now working with Tyler; I was ready to sign up right then. I knew that this program was exactly what would work for me because it is designed to work for anyone who is willing to put the effort in.
I can tell you from the experience of being a member of many local gyms and trying several weight loss programs that FVFBC is the best program that is out there. It works to my ability and it has empowered me to become stronger and get back in shape at my own pace rather than a generalized workout plan. This program provides you with the support of fitness professionals that encourage you to do your best, how to properly move when you are exercising, e-mail contact (not just SPAM as most gyms do) and a genuine will to see their members improve, not to mention countless tips, nutrition plans and workshops.
After just one year at FVFBC, I have lost over 55 pounds and am looking forward to continue watching the numbers fall into 2011. I have been healthy all year and have not felt this in shape since I was first diagnosed with SLE six years ago. I have been an athlete my entire life, I played soccer and lacrosse through college. After college, I continued to have an active lifestyle by running and being a gym regular. Health and fitness have always been an important part of my life, but nevertheless, I was unable to change by body. I would run for miles each day, do cardio machines at the gym, eat (what I thought) was a healthy diet, but still I was unhappy with my results.
About 2 years ago I heard about a new boot camp – Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp – and couldn’t wait to give it a try. After my 1st class, I was hooked. The workout was different then anything I had ever done. This way of exercising, cardio strength interval training, is so much more productive then any other form of exercise that I had ever done. I found that I could get better results in a shorter amount of time. Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp has completely changed my perception of exercise by allowing me to see that I don’t need to run for hours each day in order to obtain the results I want. The workouts are fun and challenging and are geared to everybody, regardless of your fitness level. I love the feeling of accomplishment I get after I complete a class. I find myself looking forward to each and every workout even now, 2 years into the program. This, along with seeing my body change, is what keeps me coming back for more.
My workouts at Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp have allowed my body to change in ways that, previously, I could not have imagined. I am a 35-year old mother of 4, and in the best shape of my life. I am stronger, leaner and faster now then I was as a college athlete. I have workout with many personal trainers in the past and nothing has come close to offering the same successes that I have experienced with Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp. My favorite part of the program is that I really do get back what I put in. I would recommend Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp to everybody, it truly is so worthwhile.

Becoming a member at Tyler English Fitness categorically changed my life for the better. When I joined in January of 2009, I had no idea the positive impact becoming a member would have on my life. My goal was to lose a few pounds. Well I did that and then some. To date I have lost 75 pounds and 10 pants sizes. People always ask me how much weight I have lost, and I tell them, but I also tell them that far more important than what I have lost is what I have gained through this experience. The numbers on the scale don’t matter to me now as much as being true to myself and working hard every day to be fit and healthy. I’ve never really struggled with my weight per say… growing up I was always thin but it took Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp for me to realize that I didn’t just want to be thin… I wanted to be in shape.
After getting engaged, and calling Tyler to share the good news, he told me he was going to make me work for it. And he did just that.
The first picture was taken in December of 2009 when I picked out my dress. The second was taken at my wedding in October 2010.
Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp has never been easy but it’s always been worth it. I would recommend their services no matter what your fitness level and no matter what your goal. Right after my wedding I signed up for a two-year agreement. While the wedding was important to me, the lifestyle change I have undergone is not something I ever want to lose. Whether they like it or not and as long as Tyler, Rob and Justin are offering boot camps they are going to have to deal with me.

I weighed 195lbs and was at the heaviest and felt the worst physically and mentally than I ever had in my entire life. At the age of 29, I knew I had to make a change for my physical and mental health. I had tried working out alone, and done other “bootcamps”. I would lose weight, but then it would come back on within a few months.
So I took the plunge in April of 2009….and took a class at Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp with Tyler. After one class I knew that this was going to be the place that changed my life. After joining I started taking advantage of the other tools that Tyler offers his clients. I took the “Metabolize your Metabolism” nutrition class, went to a grocery store tour, signed up for one on ones with Robert, and attended class 2-3-4 times a week. BUT the most important part was I followed the food program that we are supplied. Combining all of those things has truly changed my life. My food choices are so different than they were 19 months ago. And for the first time in a while, I have control over my body! I can feel when I am losing or gaining…and I can regulate it.
It has been 19 months and I now weigh 155lbs and continuing to lose!! My goal weight is 140. I have had some setbacks that have prevented me from making as many boot camps as I would ideally like to sometimes, but having the right training in the food department has made it a breeze to keep the weight off successfully!! And I lost 5 pounds during the holidays!! That is virtually unheard of! Tyler and Robert really hold members accountable for going to class and staying motivated. AND having a program to go to, where EVERY workout is different and the energy is so HIGH and MOTIVATING makes it easy to want to go to bootcamp time after time. It’s like an addiction now! Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp TRULY…REALLY did change my entire life. I am 31 and look better now than I did in my 20’s…anything that can turn back the hands of time like that is extraordinary! The experience since starting Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp has brought upon so many positive things in my life far beyond my original goal. Yes the body looks great but, I now have increased energy, I have more time for my kids and myself, I have made new friends, and have a clear outlook on life beyond the gym.
I would like to thank Tyler, Rob, and the current members for their dedication and positive encouragement during my transformation. I will continue to work hard and not let myself or anyone else down. As a former personal trainer, I have tried every type of workout and every fad out there. Nothing has had the effect on my body that Bootcamp has. I called Tyler with the goal of competing in figure competitions, and signed up for bootcamp after my very first workout. It was fast-paced, challenging, and by far the best workout I’ve ever done. Tyler and Rob are motivating and will push you to new levels you never thought you could achieve. I can now say I am in the best shape of my life: stronger, leaner, and more energy. Because they are constantly changing things up, I am never bored, never plateau, and always sore! I will never go back to my traditional workouts or big box gym. After only 4 months, I have dropped from 275lbs to 235lbs. Just in case, that’s 40lbs and over 4 inches in just 4 months. I still have a lot of work to do to lose the remaining 35-40lbs, but this is progress I’ve never seen before, and could only dream about. Eating right, working to failure, and staying active has completely changed my life. This time last year I was saying I could never wake up to workout, would never have the time to workout, could never change my eating habits, and would workout for 2 weeks then stop because I KNEW that’s how I was.
How things change…I have gone from hardly sleeping, and waking up with leg and back pains every day due to my weight to waking up with energy every day, no pain (except from exercise!), and a positive outlook on life. Every day I feel better about myself, and I really have to notch it up to you guys. I started 3 days a week. As you may remember, the first week I was doing the lightest weights, taking breaks and taking my time. Since then, going from 3 days to 5 days, and now 5 days plus 3 days of MMA conditioning the changes are remarkable. My I CAN’T attitude has become I CAN. It’s GO HARD OR GO HOME. You guys instilled something in me, and I don’t want to do anything else but live a healthy lifestyle anymore. Eating healthy is so easy and tastes so good, I don’t know how I lived before.
Anyway, ramblings aside – this has been, is, and will continue to be my lifestyle and will continue to be what I look forward to every single day. I can’t thank you guys enough. Here’s to many many more years of PUSH PAST THE PAIN and GOOD WORK!

Almost 2 years ago I walked through the doors at FVFBC, never did I expect the life changes that awaited me. I was the guy who ate poorly and considered exercise to be walking down the stairs to get my next meal. I hit my all time worst when at 5’8″ I weighed 205 pounds and could barely put a smile on my face.
Owning my own business and raising my twin teenagers, I thought I didn’t have time for exercise. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I walked through those doors and learned some of the most valuable lessons of my life. After meeting with Robert and Tyler, they knew I was nervous and skeptical that I’d be able to find the drive and determination to “get better”. It may seem cliche to say it, but Tyler English Fitness has changed my life in so many ways, not just physically. I am emotionally stronger and healthier than I’ve ever been in my life. As I approach 40, the next chapter of my life is off to an amazing start. I continue to go to boot camp, I feel outstanding, and if you look closely, you’ll see the smile not just on my face, but in my eyes.
